A while ago we were approached by an organisation that was about to start an ambitious project. I won\u2019t go into details, but they basically asked us to help them to include the major stakeholders. The project would be highly dependent on the support (and participation) of various external parties. Without their support the project would surely fail.<\/p>\n

The project sounded great, so within the same week we eagerly presented our suggested approach. Among other things, we wanted to organise several creative sessions in which the main stakeholders could generate ideas to make the project a success for all those involved. It would be their chance to indicate how they could contribute to the project and how the project could benefit them.<\/p>\n

The response\u00a0we got\u00a0surprised us.<\/h4>\n

The organisation that had asked us to help out, let us know that they didn\u2019t like the suggested approach very much. They made it clear that they wanted the different parties that were effected by their project to get the feeling<\/em> that they could contribute, \u201cbut we don\u2019t actually want them to have a say in it. We know what we want and if we let these stakeholders tell us what they want, then we have to do something with that. Could you change your offer?\u201d<\/p>\n

The answer to this question was, and will always be, “no.” We calmly explained that we were clearly not the agency they were looking for.<\/p>\n

If all you\u2019re interested in is giving your key stakeholders the illusion that they\u2019re being listened to, then you can save yourself the trouble. You won\u2019t like our approach.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, if you are genuinely interested in what all those involved have to say and if you want to construct a solid plan TOGETHER<\/a><\/span>, then by all means give us a call!<\/p>\n
