The most important asset of creative people is NOT\u00a0their capability to\u00a0generate original ideas. Nor is it the fact that they delay judgement during ideation. There’s one habit\u00a0that’s even more important;\u00a0their willingness to spot\u00a0value.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’re all able to look for value. However, most of us are too caught up in the act of searching\u00a0for flaws, that we overlook potential\u00a0opportunities. A highly creative individual<\/a> also sees the\u00a0shortcomings of an idea,\u00a0yet chooses to ignore them.<\/p>\n

Creative individuals look beyond the ugly, risks, defects\u00a0and missing parts. They only focus on\u00a0what they consider to be interesting.\u00a0To a creative mind an idea is nothing more and nothing less than a starting point.<\/p>\n

There is always something wrong with an idea. There will\u00a0always be arguments around to explain\u00a0why an idea wouldn’t work. It’s too\u00a0expensive, time-consuming, difficult, extreme or perhaps impossible or even illegal.<\/p>\n

It’s not very interesting to analyse an idea and reveal\u00a0its\u00a0weaknesses. Everybody can do that. What’s much more impressive\u00a0is noticing\u00a0how the idea could<\/em> work.<\/p>\n

Next time you are in a brainstorm session, be proactive about spotting value. Delaying your judgement<\/a> is not enough. You have to explore, explain and utilise\u00a0the potential\u00a0of an idea.<\/p>\n

People who are not familiar with creative thinking often find it difficult to turn an impossible idea into something realistic. They struggle to transform the absurd into something useful<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you see this happen during a creative session, don’t hesitate to confront your co-thinkers.\u00a0Challenge them to\u00a0use their creative muscle. Let them explore the idea thoroughly.<\/p>\n

Let them answer\u00a0questions like:<\/p>\n

What do you like about this idea?
\nWhat does it make you think of?
\nWhat\u2019s the concept behind it?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Can you split the idea into elements?<\/em>
\n In what ways can you use these elements?<\/em>
\n What comes to mind when you look at this idea?<\/em>
\n What does the creator want with this idea?<\/em><\/p>\n

What are the benefits of this idea?<\/em>
\n In what other ways can they be achieved?<\/em>
\n What are the flaws\u00a0of this idea?
\n<\/span>How can they be removed?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

What do we need to make it work?<\/em>
\n What’s the value of this idea?<\/em>
\n How could it be realised?<\/em>
\n How else could this be realised?<\/em>
\n How can we change it to make it feasible?<\/em><\/p>\n

Answering questions like these can turn one awful looking\u00a0idea into a valuable source of inspiration.<\/p>\n

Look beyond the obvious and find creative ways to turn an impractical suggestion into a creative, yet feasible idea.<\/span><\/p>\n

See ideas as rough material. Exploring an idea is a great way to discover insights and interesting elements. <\/span>One of these\u00a0might turn out to be the starting point of an brilliant idea.<\/span><\/p>\n
