Some people just love pointing out all the flaws in your plan. They have no problem telling you why something won\u2019t work. Can\u2019t you just evade these critics?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sure you can. But you shouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Embrace the critics<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When generating creative ideas, criticism is <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/dare-to-ignore-the-early-critic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">not done<\/a>. However, in the overall innovation process, you need a critical eye. An idea is rarely (if ever) perfect from the start. Usually, quite some sharpening is needed to make implementation possible. Therefore it\u2019s a good idea to pay attention to the critics.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/creative-problem-solving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">our model<\/a>, we embrace criticism in the evaluation phase. In this phase, we carefully examine the ideas and pay close attention to risks, disadvantages and stakeholder interests that need to be taken into account.<\/p>\n<p>You need people who are willing to point out all the flaws of an idea. These people can help you refine a rough idea. Together you can polish the idea until it shines so bright nobody can resist it any more. By eliminating disadvantages and taking risks into account, you\u2019ll improve your chances of successful implementation.<\/p>\n<p>By giving the critics a voice, you\u2019ll create a robust plan that will <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/the-project-plateau-the-quicksand-of-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">survive the hard implementation phase<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Secure a broad support base<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Asking the tough questions and improving an unripe idea are not the only ways your critical co-workers can contribute to the innovation process.<\/p>\n<p>You want to include the known \u2018naysayers\u2019 much earlier in the process. If you expect certain individuals to thwart your project, ask them to help you generate ideas. Having these people share their ideas early on will make them much more eager to make the eventual plan work.<\/p>\n<p>Prevent the <a href=\"https:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/not-invented-here\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018not invented here\u2019 syndrome<\/a> and secure a broad support base.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Getting them on board<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Of course, some people don\u2019t see value in creative thinking and innovation. They\u2019d rather stay exactly where they are and they detest change.<\/p>\n<p>You have to convince these folks that innovation is not as scary as they think. For one, <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/low-risk-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it doesn\u2019t have to be disruptive<\/a>. It also <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/low-tech-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">doesn\u2019t have to be high tech<\/a> and it\u2019s certainly <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/not-in-my-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not limited to a particular industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, even if you have convinced your sceptical colleague that <a href=\"http:\/\/hatrabbits.com\/en\/6-reasons-why-innovation-is-vital-for-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">innovation is necessary<\/a> and nothing to be afraid of, he or she might still consider his- or herself unfit for the creative process.<\/p>\n<p>Many people wrongfully consider themselves to be uncreative. They believe creativity is a mysterious gift you have to be born with. Of course, they are wrong, but it can be hard to explain this to them.
